I felt it was necessary to explain why we developed this site. Firstly, we love fish and have always wanted to do this… we know there are similar sites but we are also web designers so any chance we get to make a site we will, ha-ha. Through our years of fish trading online we have been disgusted at the rivalry between factions and the stupid unnecessary rules set by all parties to simply make money… fair enough, I guess this is a business for most but in our opinion they are going about it the wrong way, to the detriment of the hobby.

If it’s not charging members to use their service, it’s telling us what we can and can’t sell! Simply because someone else has paid more money than we have shouldn’t mean that they can sell their items and we are told we cannot, there’s the first problem… a monopoly, the more people buying and selling the more diverse the blood lines are and the higher the quality of fish, it’s that simple.

Secondly the rivalry between sites has gone too far… people ripping other people off simply because they frequent both sites rather being stupidly loyal to just one. Grow up! You’re not in primary school any more, we can all just get along, and it’s not hard… you’ll probably be surprised at the opportunities that open up for you… as they say; there are a lot of fish in the sea (or the lakes in our case). Just because someone doesn’t want to go to your meetings, or give you money to access a special sealed section or advertise the tiny top corner of your site doesn’t mean you should shrug them off and make it difficult for them to sell their products/services and generate their hard earned income.

Don’t get me wrong, we’re not telling you to stop using these sites, we want you to frequent them all, as well as this one (just be wary of all the bull shit). They all have a lot to offer, and a hell of a lot of knowledge floating around (if only some people would stop being knob jockeys and stop coming across as arrogant then maybe it would make it easier for people to ask and receive the correct advice). We have linked to these pages in the forum, acknowledging the services they have to offer even though they refuse to recognize us, and try to bring us down.

Ok now It sounds like I’m just ranting a bit, but it’s not just myself who feel this way. We were approached by a lot of breeders and hobbyists from all different factions asking us to develop a site that doesn’t charge any money, where no one gets special treatment, everyone is treated equally regardless of whether you are new to the hobby looking to buy a breeding pair of guppies or rare, difficult to breed plecos… And that is what we have done, there will be no advertising on ozfishforsale.com.au, the funding for this site has come straight from our own pockets.

Finally we produced ozfishforsale.com to provide another outlet to buy and sell your fish and to provide a place where breeders from all over the country can get together and trade; most other sites are state specific. Bringing fresh bloodlines into your state will not only improve the quality of your fish but could introduce you to new breeders and new, interesting species previously not available in your state.

So play nice and everything will be fine, we won’t kick you off the site if you act like a dick but I guarantee that you will have a hard time selling your fish. Remember it is the buyers responsibility to check whether the seller is credible, the fish are legal and the price is appropriate, don’t come crying to us when something goes wrong, though if you do come across a dodgy so-and-so then we’d like to know so we can keep an eye on things so no one else gets ripped off.

And please be patient, sites like these take time, so give it a go and I promise you will be rewarded in the long run!
